How do you apply an Amber promo code?
- Start from the button. Apply code at Amber opens Amber's sign-up with X9DWGVWC in the promo field. Prefer to type it? Copy the code and paste it in.
- Enter your address. Amber shows your network, your prices and whether your home can switch. Read the energy fact sheet it links to.
- Check the code before you submit. If X9DWGVWC isn't in the promo field, add it now. A promo code can't be added once your account has been created.
Check you qualify first
- You're new to Amber. Promo codes only apply to new accounts.
- Your address is in Amber's area. NSW, VIC, SA, the ACT and south-east Queensland, and Amber still checks each address.
- You have, or can get, a smart meter. Amber prices change every 30 minutes, which an old accumulation meter can't record.
- You're not using another Amber deal. Partner offers, such as CommBank's, replace the promo code rather than adding to it.
Amber promo code vs the CommBank offer
Amber has one other sign-up credit that people search for: a welcome credit for CommBank home loan customers. You can only use one, so here's how they compare.
| Promo code X9DWGVWC | CommBank home loan offer | |
|---|---|---|
| Credit | $200 until 9 November 2026, then $120 | $300 over 6 months |
| Who qualifies | Any eligible new Amber customer | New Amber customers with an eligible CommBank home loan of $250,000 or more, funded or refinanced from 1 May 2025 |
| Ongoing condition | None | Pay your Amber bills with a CommBank card |
| Combine with the other? | No | No |
If you qualify for the CommBank offer, its $300 beats this code by $100 during the Spring offer (and by $180 once it ends). If you don't have an eligible CommBank home loan, the promo code is the offer you can use. CommBank offer details from Amber's offer page, checked 11 October 2026.
What the promo code covers, and what it doesn't
Amber charges a $25 monthly membership on top of the electricity you use. That's $300 a year. The standard $120 promo credit covers 40% of your first year's membership, and the $200 Spring credit covers about 67%. From your second year the full fee applies.
$120 standard credit ÷ $300 yearly fee = 40%
$200 Spring credit ÷ $300 yearly fee = 67%
Put simply, the credit offsets Amber's membership rather than lowering your unit prices. What decides your bill is the pricing underneath: Amber passes through the wholesale price, adjusted every 30 minutes. It can be very cheap in the middle of a sunny day and expensive on a hot evening. Homes that can move their usage, or let a battery do it, tend to come out ahead. Homes that can't usually don't. Real numbers from the customer whose code this is
The code on this page belongs to the person who runs it: an Amber customer in NSW since January 2026, with rooftop solar and a large home battery. These figures come from Amber's own API for 87 winter days, 22 June to 16 September 2026:
- Average price paid for grid power
- 14.16c/kWh
- Average earned for exports
- 11.70c/kWh
- Grid power used 4–8pm
- 4.2%
- Half-hours paid above $1/kWh
- 0
vs 25.45c flat on the previous plan
vs a 4c feed-in tariff before
the battery covers the evening peak
no price spikes reached the bill
That's about 56% of the old price for grid power (14.16 ÷ 25.45), and 2.9 times the old rate for exports (11.70 ÷ 4). The battery did most of that work. The first months on Amber, before the battery was installed, were expensive, which is why the next section matters.
Who should skip Amber, promo or not
Amber tends to suit you if
- You have solar and a battery, or an EV you can charge in the middle of the day.
- You can run the dishwasher, washing and pool pump when prices are low.
- You're happy to check an app, or let automation handle it.
A fixed-rate plan is probably better if
- Most of your usage is in the 4–8pm peak and can't move.
- You have no battery and nothing you can shift.
- You want the same unit price every day.
- The promo credit is the main reason you're switching.
If the right-hand list sounds like your home, compare plans on Energy Made Easy before you switch. It's run by the Australian Energy Regulator and doesn't take commissions. For a quick read on your own home, use the Amber fit check.
Amber terms in plain English
- Promo code
- The 8-character code entered at sign-up. On Amber it comes from an existing customer's Mates Rates code, so the same code is sometimes called a referral code.
- Mates Rates
- Amber's name for its customer-to-customer program. Each customer gets a code to share, and both people receive bill credit when it's used.
- Wholesale price
- The price electricity trades at in the National Electricity Market. Amber adjusts what you pay every 30 minutes to follow it, instead of setting fixed rates.
- Membership fee
- Amber's flat $25 a month. It's how Amber makes its money, and it's charged whether or not you have promo credit.
- SmartShift
- Amber's automation for compatible home batteries and EVs. It charges when prices are low and can sell stored energy back to the grid when they're high.
- Smart meter
- A meter that records usage every 30 minutes. Amber needs one to bill you; it arranges the upgrade if your home still has an older meter.
- Feed-in (export) price
- What you're paid for solar energy you send to the grid. On Amber it follows the wholesale price, so it can be much higher or lower than a fixed feed-in tariff.

Amber promo code questions
What is the Amber Electric promo code right now?
X9DWGVWC, confirmed on 10 October 2026. Enter it in the promo code field when you sign up with Amber Electric, or use the button on this page, which opens Amber's sign-up with the code already filled in.
How much is the Amber promo code worth?
Right now it is worth $200 in bill credit. That is Amber's Spring offer, and it ends on 9 November 2026. From the next day the same code is worth the standard $120, paid as $10 off each monthly bill for 12 months.
How do I use an Amber promo code?
Open Amber's sign-up page, enter your address, and put the code in the promo code field before you submit. The link on this page does the first and last steps for you. Check the code is showing before you finish: once your account exists, a promo code can't be added.
Can I add a promo code after I've already joined Amber?
No. The promo code field only appears during sign-up, and Amber's promo codes are for new accounts. If you've already joined without one, you can't apply it afterwards.
Can I use the Amber promo code with a CommBank offer?
No. Amber applies one offer per sign-up, and its CommBank offer terms say it can't be used with any other offer or discount. If you qualify for both, compare them: the CommBank home loan offer is $300 over 6 months, while this code is worth $200 right now.
Which states can use an Amber Electric promo code?
New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, the ACT and south-east Queensland. There's no Amber service in WA, Tasmania or the NT, so a promo code can't help there. Even inside those areas, Amber checks each address.
Do I need solar or a battery to use the promo code?
No. Any eligible new customer gets the credit. You do need a smart meter, because Amber charges in 30-minute blocks; if you don't have one, Amber organises the upgrade, which can add time to the switch. Solar and a battery matter for whether Amber saves you money, not for the promo.
When will the promo credit show up on my bill?
Not on the day you sign up. Amber's referral terms say credits are processed as soon as practicable and no later than two months after you join. The standard offer then appears as $10 off each monthly bill.
What happens to the credit if I leave Amber early?
Credit already applied stays applied, but any credit still to come is cancelled. Under Amber's terms, the rest of the reward stops once the new customer is no longer with Amber.
Why didn't my Amber promo code work?
The usual reasons: the code had been replaced (always check the date next to any code), you were already an Amber customer, your address is outside Amber's area, another offer was attached to your sign-up, or the code was entered after the account was created. Check that the code shows in the promo field before you submit.
Is there an Amber promo code for existing customers?
No. Promo codes are for new customers only. Once you're a customer, the Amber app gives you a code of your own to pass on. The code on this page is one of those.
Is the promo code worth more than Amber's membership fee?
No. Amber charges $25 a month, or $300 a year. The standard $120 credit covers 40% of the first year's membership and the $200 Spring credit covers about 67%. Whether Amber saves you money depends on the wholesale prices you pay, not on the credit.
Is this website run by Amber Electric?
No. It's run by an Amber customer, and the code is the owner's own. Amber gives the owner a credit when someone joins with it, at no cost to you. Details are on the disclosure page.
